Advice to Writers
Wanna be a writer but you don't know how? Well, I myself am a writer, and here's the advice i'd give anyone who wanted to become one.
- Reading helped me come up with my own style of writing, and good stories. It also helped me learn to write better, but how it did is hard to explain.
- What you want to write is a very important part of writing, because what are you going to write if you don't know? I prefer to write poetry, since you have more freedom about how you write than any other type of writing.
- Don't be afraid to be different. Just because your writing might be different than others doesnt mean you shouldn't write.
- You have to enjoy writing to become good at it. None of this advice will help you if you don't truly want to write, and it's just not something you enjoy.
- I know this might sound wierd, but having something that write best on or with helps me. I prefer typing things, or using a pen with black ink. Whatever type of thing that helps you think best, use it.
- If you talk alot, writing is probably not the thing for you. It's hard to think of what to write when you are constantly talking, so becoming lost in your thoughts is something a writer should be able to do.
- Being good with words is important for a writer. Writing is different from talking, so don't do the two the same.
- Have your own style of writing, whether it's sorta old fashioned or really modern, it's really important. And having a favorite genre to write can help, but try different things.
- Always be creative. Think wierd when you write, because normal can get boring. Describe things differently than how most would. Think of some things as though they're something else. It makes writing more enjoyable if it's different.
Here's a poem I wrote:
Ode to the Night
Darkness appears as you sweep over the horizon
But along with that quality, all owls do rise,
And if I look fiercely, the moon becomes a white cave
The stars seem to move, they appear as a wave
The hoots and homely hollows of your wondrous birds
Bathe in your cool air, a chilling sight
Though some may think you're as horrid as a troll
Others believe without you time is not whole
Your stars are as perfect as some see days' clouds
Your moon as bright and cheerful as they say of the sun
Some may think your presence is terribly horrid
While I detest the sunrise, because goodbye I must bid
Light appears as you fade from the sky
And with the unfortunate day, owls return to their hollows
The sun is a pit where you shall sleep,
The clouds are tissues, if you must weep.
